It's nice to be back in the Empire City since my first visit three years ago. After ten hours of travel from Atlanta, we made it to LaGuardia Airport just shy of Manhattan's rush hour. We weren't expected frigid degrees, but two East Village music venues made for a warm welcome. At The Sidewalk Cafe, I sang two songs, Violin by Amos Lee, and Better Than This, one of my originals. A few blocks away, I performed at The Parkside Lounge, where The Inspired Word features a lineup of all things performing arts: word, poetry, music, comedy, and storytelling. What a beautiful mission it has: "to celebrate live performing arts in New York City; to inspire creativity, action, and change through the arts; and to tear down the walls separating us by finding unity through community."
